New Blast Infight Review

From England !!!!

http://www.archaic-magazine.com/article.php?aid=44196

In 2005 colleague Isaak reviewed the album “Seeds of Pain” from the French metallers Kragens. Just like Isaak I wasn’t familiar with Kragens before their release of “Seeds of Pain” either, but I was totally blown away by it as well! That album was from a high-quality level which showed us power/thrash metal with vocals ranging between clean, grunts, screams and everything in between. The strength of these vocal performances by singer Renaud Espeche (I hope that’s not an artist name for Renault Espace…) made that album very spectacular and impressive. When the new album “InFight” was released I was more than curious if and how the band would top their previous work.
Well, I can assure you that “InFight” has become another high-quality album! It’s up to everyone’s own personal interest to say if it’s better as “Seeds of Pain”. I would like to say that both albums are different from eachother, but equally strong and impressive. On “InFight” the band seems more clear in what kind of musical direction they want to head. The album has turned out a top-notch modern power/thrash/heavy metal album. Modern, yet with a lot of love for the old school tradition. Keep something between old and new Nevermore, Candlemass, Testament, Jag Panzer, Accept and Helstar in mind (something Swedish band Pathos also was capable of on their “Katharsis” album, whatever happened to that band?). An ultra tight and fat production by Tue Madsen reveals in every detail what guitarists Cedric Sellier and newcomer Gil Giachino are capable of. Fast thrash shredding, open heavy metal passages, melodic licks and solo’s, you name it. Bassist Denis Malek and drummer Olivier Gavelle take care of a solid and thunderous backbone that kicks-ass! But just like on the previous album it’s vocalist Renaud that steals the show again! Man, that guy has such a varied and pure throat you sometimes doubt it’s the same man! Like I mentioned before, the band seems to be more focused on their chosen direction, better in balance so to say. This time Renaud uses his voice a bit less experimental, he has picked out the types of vocals he’s best at. Therefore the album sounds more raw, aggressive and straight forward. Strong shouting, grunting and screaming are better dosed and changed with powerful clean vocals that should inspire Messiah Marcolin (ex-Candlemass) to pick up the mic again. The combination of exciting musical playing and supreme vocal duties has delivered nine excellent songs from which in some of them the pace lies around mid-tempo (“Deaf and Blind”, “Lake of Fire”, “Angels among Monsters”, “Masked of the Damned” and “Metalize”) or others go in speeding mode ( “Tyranny of Gods”, “ Ten Treasons we Fight” and “Only the Weak Survive”). The beautiful long powerballad “The Falling Man” really is from a classic super level and is my personal highlight from the album!
I cannot come up with real downsides on “InFight” (except for the cheap artwork maybe), this album is simply finished from head to toe. Lovers of this genre should not only look to the US or in smaller amount, Germany, but take a look to France as well. A country where killer bands seem to pop up more and more, something I think is a great development. Now let’s hope the Locomotive label will get this band to tour more outside of France and surrounding countries, because I’m sure a lot metal maniacs will bang their head empty on these tunes!
Tim

Who knows how to speak Hungarian ?

One more killer review of "INFIGHT" we don't understand !!! : 9/10

http://kronosmortus.hu/node/10673

Magát a zenekart ráadásul sokat tapasztalt zenészek alkotják: a Kragensbe főként a 80-as évek nevesebb heavy metal bandáiból érkeztek a tagok.
Ráadásul a dal hossza meghaladja a 8 percet, amivel igen erősen megtöri a lemez dinamikáját, igaz a szám végét azért kicsit felpörgették, és ott a hangulatot is sikerült újra elcsípni.

A new good review from Spain !

One more awesome Infight review !

Written in Dutch, but anyway that's the average that counts!

Metal Fan NL (link in "Press, Reviews")

NU.

Score: 89 / 100

New review ! From Italy !

Negatron Webzine

A nice review from Nederland 9/10

Nice, you get a copy of the new Kragens called Infight without any information from the record company. Normally that won’t do you any good if I get my hands on such a thing.
But with Kragens I will strike with my hand over my heart. I knew this band from their latest recording Seeds of Pain from 2005. I really liked that album from the French guys. Before Seeds of Pain they made [/i]Dying in a Desert[/i] in 2004. Now we have arrived in 2008 and here is the new Kragens, spinning rounds in my cd-player.

The musicians in Kragens are playing also in other bands that you might know. Guitarplayer Gilles Giachino is also active in Xtrunk and Medusa who’s latest sign of life was in 2002 with the album Etherias. Denis Malek and Renaud Espeche have once made a demo with the band Lynx in 1985. And the same Renaud Espeche was present in the French band Demon Eyes in the eighties. Remember those guys ??

Now they are all in Kragens. And they have made their third album Infight. As you can read above I didn’t have any info with my copy of Infight. So when you do not know Mr. Renaud Espeche you could think that are a few guest singers on this album. What Renaud Espeche can do with his voice is sometimes unbelievable. He sounds just like Udo Dirkschneider (U.D.O., ex-Accept) on Lake of Fire. The man also knows Warrel Dane (Nevermore, ex-Sanctuary) on Angels Among Monsters and on The Falling Man he even sounds like Geoff Tate (Queensr˙che). Yes I know it looks to good to be true, but listen yourself. The music is heavy metal in it’s purest form with some sidewalks to thrash metal. Think of Judas Priest meets Nevermore or Exodus. So Kragens has made with Infight a marvellous metal album. It doesn’t sound original, but with those songs and a brilliant singer Kragens is ready to be picked up by the greater audience. The boys from France deserve that. Infight held my attention the whole 47 minutes and I know that it’s only just March when you read this, but they make a big chance to end in my top 10 yearlist from 2008. Go get this heavy metal pur-sang album and enjoy Infight just like I still do.

Italia welcome Kragens !

Our track « Seeds Of Pain » on the Rock Hard Italy Sampler ! (Num 34) with that comment in Italian :

» Recensioni next month.

Metal Hammer Italy sept 2005 : rate 4/6 ! :

« Scontenti dell’ultimo arrivato in casa nevermore ? »

Our tour with God Dethroned is cancelled. Stay tuned, we are looking for another tour...
